ACPT’s patented processes convert low-value, carbon-rich feedstock into the pitch materials used to produce synthetic graphite, carbon fiber, carbon-carbon and other carbon-based materials. These processes not only enable domestic production of these strategic materials, but also sequesters carbon, mitigating negative environmental impacts of the carbon-rich feedstock.

ACPT is now operating the nation’s first-of-its-kind pilot plant using these patented processes. The isotropic and mesophase pitch produced in this plant has been proven effective in making synthetic graphite for batteries, carbon fiber for lightweight vehicles and carbon-carbon for hypersonic high-temperature composites. Making these materials in the USA will enable the nation’s electric vehicle industry and hypersonic defense applications to be fully supported by an American supply chain that can provide everything from raw materials to complete system manufacturing.
